Thoughts on Southern California's high tech and venture capital industry

Two great SoCal technology events Thursday

May 24, 2011

For those looking to network with the high tech community in Southern California, there are two great events Thursday you might want to check out (among many great events this week). The first is Vator LA, and the second is MOTM. We’re a media sponsor of Vator LA, and a supporter of MOTM.
Vator Splash LA

The popular Vator Splash startup event comes to LA

On the evening of May 26, Vator will be holding its inaugural Vator Splash LA event at The Highlands Hollywood. This upcoming Splash will showcase 10 up-and-coming startups, prominent VCs and founders of the leading LA-based companies – Demand Media and ReachLocal. Hear Shawn Colo, co-founder and EVP of M&A at Demand Media, share his lessons and advice on building Demand from scratch in 2006 to one of this year’s hottest IPOs. Shawn will also talk about the future of Demand. Hear Zorik Gordon, co-founder and CEO of ReachLocal, share his lessons and advice on building his startup since 2004 to become one of the hottest tech IPOs last year. With ReachLocal’s recent acquisition to get into the daily deals business, Zorik will also address his view on the future of daily deals.

Also onstage will be Neal Hansch (Rustic Canyon), Yair Landau (MK Capital), Dana Settle (Greycroft), David Travers (Rustic Canyon), David Carlick (Rho Capital Partners), Brian Garrett (Crosscut Ventures), Jed Katz (Javelin Venture Partners), Jeff Lee (Mission Ventures), Samit Varma (Anthem Venture Partners), and Larry Marcus (Walden Venture Capital) and more.

MOTM is pleased to invite local thought leaders to an evening with leading Southern California social entrepreneur Ryan Scott, CEO and founder of Causecast and investor in several clean tech and socially responsible companies. While his current goal is to change the world by using technology to apply the powerful force of capitalism to the world’s most complex environmental and social problems, Ryan’s entrepreneuring spirit and ingenuity run deeper than his current focus on cause integration.

In an intimate, interview-style format, MOTM advisor and digital media and marketing veteran Tony Winders will lead a discussion that will leave everyone in attendance inspired by Ryan’s accomplishments and our own potential to achieve the same level of success in our own endeavors.
