DIY URL Shortening

A few months ago, there was a week or two of tech-blog obsession with new “url shortening” services — i.e. tinyurl, bit.ly, etc.
I told a few people (who were cooking up their own grand schemes of URL shortening domination, and thinking about VC funding) how trivial this was, software-wise, and how there’s really no barrier to entry to roll your own. Today, I ran into a great blog post on really how easy this is: how to make your own URL shortener (courtesy TechStartups.com).
