Half a holiday better than no holiday at all?
October 12th, 2009 by Benjamin KuoCompletely off the topic of technology/high tech, and venture capital, but is anyone else confused as if today is a holiday or not?
It’s Columbus Day, officially a Federal Holiday. But, California recently decided that Columbus Day is NOT a holiday, spurring a clash with the SEIU, which represents thousands of state workers. The union says that it is still a paid holiday (per its contract)–and is telling government workers not to show up. Banks and post offices are closed, but schools are open (at least for my kids, in Ventura County). However, the stock market is open, but the bond markets are closed. Some companies are releasing news today, but lots aren’t.
Anyone else confused?
I suppose, if I see multiple posts from the usual lineup of tech blogs on GUI changes on Google, Facebook (i.e. Facebook Moves Login Field Two Pixels Left), or Twitter (i.e. Twitter Changes Font Size) it’s a holiday–or at least, half of one.
