Fred Wilson rags on local investors, about politics
I was amused this afternoon to read this pointed rant by prolific VC blogger Fred Wilson, aimed at two local investors here in Southern California, Richard Koffler (of the Tech Coast Angels) and Jeff Cohn (VC consultant for MHS Capital). Wilson writes:
Every time I post or tweet about politics, I get people saying things like this:
rkoffler Wilson should stick to investing in 2.0 marvels. RT @jeffcohn: RT @fredwilson Obama really nailed it that last five minutes.
I’ve said this before here on the AVC blog, but it’s important to me and I want to say it again.
I am not an expert in everything I write about. But that is not going to stop me from speaking my mind about things other than venture capital and web startups.
On a side note, I believe in the age of Facebook/Twitter/et. al, if you’re an entrepreneur looking for money, it’s best to *not* declare your politics/religion/etc. Sure, we’re in a society which is supposed to be blind to these kinds of things, but if you’re particularly active on either front, I think it’s more likely to hurt rather than help possible business relationships which have nothing to do with politics.

had no idea those guys were investors. i’d do business with them by the way if they wanted to do business with me. i just am not going to shut up because they don’t like my opinions.
Ben, I don’t think that entrepreneurs should care one hoot about what Wilson or any other investor thinks about his/her political views. Life is too short to be lived worrying about offending VCs. In fact, I’d rather engage in an interesting, intelligent debate about healthcare than about fantasy sales projections or conjectures about what competitors will do next year.
