Back again: pink slip parties?
I don’t know how many people remember the “pink slip parties” during the Internet bust, which were various networking events designed to help the many people who had been laid off. Interestingly enough, there’s a group starting up a new networking group (Pink Slip Mixers) in Santa Monica, which is the first group of that kind I’ve seen since the bust.
It doesn’t seem there has (yet) been a huge impact on employment in the area due to the economic downturn, at least in technology — I’ve talked to half a dozen recruiters in the last two weeks, who tell me that their business is booming — but clearly there’s some fear and anxiety in the air.
Now, if someone revives F*ckedCompany, the online web site where people traded rumors and speculation on which Internet startups were imploding during the dot com bust, that would definitely be a bad sign…
